We are a working Pittsburgh divorce law firm with over 20 years of experience. We can make this happen for you.
THIS KIT IS 100% GUARANTEED TO WORK IF:
- You and your spouse are in complete agreement to divorce.
- You and your spouse will sign all necessary documents.
- Either you or your spouse (it only has to be one of you) has resided in Pennsylvania for six months or more at the time you file.
YOU SHOULD NOT USE THIS KIT IF:
- You do not know how to contact your spouse.
- Neither you nor your spouse lives in Pennsylvania.
- Your spouse will not sign the necessary forms.
- You have unresolved property or spousal support issues (including pension claims).
- You want to file a written agreement with the court relating to property or children.
- Your spouse is on active duty in the U.S. Military (any branch).
- Either you or your spouse has already filed for divorce in another county or state.
Please be aware that in Pennsylvania, divorce is about economic closure rather than personal closure. There are rights that arise from your marriage — such as identification and distribution of marital property and debt, and alimony — that must either be claimed before a divorce is final, be protected by a written agreement with your spouse, or be waived forever. Before you decide to purchase this kit, be sure that neither you nor your spouse intends to make any such claims. Additionally, if you are presently covered by your spouse’s medical insurance, the award of a divorce decree will bring that to an end. If you are in any doubt about your rights or about your needs, you should seek a consultation with a local family law attorney before you proceed. Purchase and/or use of this kit, including calls for office informational assistance, does not create a lawyer/client relationship between you and Pittsburgh Family Law Services, P.C. nor with any attorney associated therewith.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS?
Every court in Pennsylvania charges fees to accept your divorce forms for filing, and you will pay the court a total of $109.75 after you have purchased our kit. The odds are strong that even adding in the $75 cost of our Pennsylvania divorce paperwork, you will pay less for your divorce than if you filed it in your home county using free divorce forms. You don’t have to take our word for it; do a web search for “[your PA home county] prothonotary fees,” and see for yourself.
The cheapest available Philadelphia County divorce, using free forms, will cost you close to $400 in filing fees. The cheapest Pittsburgh divorce with free forms will cost close to $210. In Erie, your free-forms divorce costs over $220. In Scranton, about $200. In Harrisburg, over $330. In Cameron County, including the cost of our custom-prepared forms, $184.75!
THIS SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. HOW IS THIS LEGAL?
Pennsylvania divorce law permits you to obtain a divorce decree outside the county of your residence if (and only if!) both you and your spouse agree to do so. Since you do not need to see the inside of a courtroom when both spouses agree to a divorce, with our kit you can legally file a Cameron County divorce action from anywhere in Pennsylvania, all without having to travel farther away than your Post Office.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN I AM DIVORCED?
The court will mail you a certified copy of your divorce decree at the end of your divorce process. This is the document that you must show if you should ever again apply for a marriage license, because that is your proof that you are legally single.
YOUR CHILDREN ARE NOT A COMPLICATION!
Rights involving children do not arise from your marriage, and so they are unaffected by divorce.

My husband and I have been separated for over a year and Im already receiving spousal support, will I lose it if I use the kit and get a divorce
Yes, you will. Divorce isn’t about personal closure as far as Pennsylvania is concerned, because that sort of thing cannot come from a judge; instead, divorce is about economic closure (because marriage is an economic relationship, as far as PA law is concerned). This means that rights arising from your marriage such as property/debt division and the possibility of alimony either have to be claimed prior to the award of a divorce decree or protected by a written agreement, or those rights are lost forever.
Our kit is designed to give you a quick Pennsylvania divorce when all that the spouses are looking for is the divorce decree itself. If you need something beyond the mere piece of paper saying that you’re single, your best bet is to talk to a lawyer before you do anything that may affect your rights or your options.
I was wondering how long it will take for a divorce. My spouse and i have been separated for almost 18 years.
If your spouse will actively cooperate with your divorce process, in that situation you’re probably looking at less than two months. Your ground for divorce will be “irretrievable breakdown,” the second of the two no-fault grounds for divorce in Pennsylvania. It’s an easy process when both spouses want the same thing, and you won’t have to see a courtroom or a judge.
Hi Mr Greenstein
What if I dont want to use the do it yourself kit. Can you tell me how much it will cost me to hire you to do all of this for me. Non contested, been seperated for 1.5 years, no custody and no property to split. Super straightforward.
I presently charge $300 plus filing fee. If you still want to file in Cameron County, that would presently add $105 additional, for a total cost of $405. You are welcome to call my office, and I’ll be glad to discuss the matter with you personally.
Hi,
Once the final paperwork has been submitted, how long does it generally take to receive the divorce decree?
It can take up to a month, generally, although the Cameron County Court will backdate the decree to the date they actually received it from you.
Part of the reason is that Cameron County has such a low population that they don’t have a full-time judge of their own; a judge literally rides into town from neighboring Elk County (my romantic vision of it involves him arriving on horseback, but I’m guessing that’s not the way it goes!) a couple times a month to do the court’s business.
Can this package be used to file an ‘irretrievable breakdown’ divorce (I am just over the 2 year mark) and would I still be able to file it in Cameron County?
Thank you!
Yes, it can, if your spouse is willing to cooperate. If you file a divorce in your home Pennsylvania county using the irretrievable breakdown no-fault ground, as long as your spouse is correctly served with the paperwork there is no need for him or her to cooperate in any way. Unless Cameron County is where you actually reside, however, the “loophole” in PA divorce law that allows the out-of-county filing that our kit makes use of requires absolutely that both spouses be actively on-board with the process by signing the necessary paperwork. If you aren’t sure whether your spouse will cooperate, your best bet is to file in your county of residence instead of using the kit.
Actually, we have two divorce kits: one for mutual consent divorces, and one for irretrievable breakdown divorces. Based on the length of your separation, we select the kit for the ground for divorce that will let you get the process done most quickly.
I need help and I need to know on how to go I got my kit from you .
I invite you to give our office a call during business hours, and we’ll be glad to help you get straightened out. We want people to succeed with our kit!
Yo ive been married for 7 years with My husband we got married in the dominican republic but i curently Live in Pensilvania Hes willing to sighn anything but before i purchase i want to know if Its okay
As long as both of you are in full agreement and actively cooperating, only one of you has to have been a Pennsylvania resident for the last six months or longer to be able to use our divorce kit.
As I scroll through the comments and questions, I see you saying above that when using your kit, the divorce can be completed in two months, possibly even one month… How is this possible when I thought PA requires a 90-day waiting period?
I’m planning on using this kit and purchasing this week. I’d like to call and speak with someone before purchasing. Will my phone call cost anything to acquire some information? After I receive my kit, will I be allowed to have access to further information via telephone if I need it?
There are two “no fault divorce” grounds in Pennsylvania, and the only one of the two that requires a 90-day waiting period is the first one: Mutual Consent. I like to tell people that a Mutual Consent divorce will take four months, give-or-take, including the 90-day waiting period that prompted your question.
The other no-fault divorce ground used in PA is Irretrievable Breakdown, which is currently in a “gray area” period between requiring a minimum separation period of two years, and a period of one year. For your purposes if you were to file now using this particular ground, you would require a full two years of separation from your spouse. An Irretrievable Breakdown divorce takes about two months, give-or-take.
The kit will work for you if you and your spouse are in full agreement, and if there are no economic “loose ends” between you. If you have property together, or if you are considering claims for support or property division, you should discuss your situation with a local family law attorney before you start a divorce process.
We cannot discuss your legal rights over the phone, although we do offer paid consultations for that purpose. Additionally, if you decide to use the kit we offer full office support if you should find the instructions confusing.
I hope this helps!
I have been separated from my husband for 13 years how long will it take to get the divorce??
Assuming that your husband is actively cooperating with you — which is essential to be able to succeed with our forms! — you are probably looking at two months, give-or-take.
That said, out of an abundance of caution I offer my usual warning: DO NOT SCHEDULE A WEDDING BEFORE YOU HAVE YOUR DIVORCE DECREE. I don’t know whether you have that in mind, of course, but the technical term for doing that is “tempting fate.” Nobody needs that much aggravation!
Do you offer any type of expedited service to get it done sooner than 2 months. Separated for 14 years.
No lawyer can make your divorce process faster, I’m sorry to say, provided that everything has been done right in the first place. For an “irretrievable breakdown” divorce, nearly three weeks is required between the date you file the initial paperwork with the court and the date you can ask the court for a final divorce decree. The court generally takes about a month after that, give-or-take, to issue the actual decree.
If we prepare our own Divorce Settlement Agreement, can it be filed with this kit?
Possibly it can be, but unless you are a resident of Cameron County, Pennsylvania you won’t end up enforcing it there. This means that either you hold on to it unless and until you need to enforce it, in which case you would almost certainly have to register a certified copy of your Cameron County divorce decree with your local court as a “foreign decree” and then file your settlement agreement, or you can file your divorce locally; the former option is probably the one most people would prefer.
On a side note, laypeople drafting their own settlement agreements should be VERY careful. Such agreements are at their best when they take into account what I call the “Four Cs” of contract drafting: clear, complete, concise and comprehensive. The idea is that a third party not knowing you and your spouse from Adam and Eve, just from reading the agreement and not asking anyone any questions, should know exactly what was agreed to (and by extension, what was not). I have seen people get into substantial trouble from poorly-drafted agreements (some of them drafted by lawyers!).
My husband and I have been separated for a month and a half. We are both in complete agreement to this divorce. Do we have to wait until Dec 1st to file to be in compliance of the 90 days? Or since it has been less than 2 years and it’s going to take 4months we will have the 90days in during the process. We both just want to get this done as quickly as possible.
The 90 days start ticking once the divorce has been filed and served on your husband (and service is nothing more complicated than his signing the “Acceptance of Service” form included in the kit). It’s only after the 90 days have elapsed that you can sign the consent forms.
That’s why I say your divorce will take 4 months, give-or-take: I’m doing nothing but adding the 90 days from filing and service, plus an additional month or so for the court to process the paperwork.
OK. I ordered the Kit. When I receive it in the mail, is there a time limit my spouse has to sign it and we send it in before it would/could go void?
If you follow the instructions AND your spouse actively consents, you don’t have to worry about a time limit. After a period of years of inactivity after filing you risk having the divorce dismissed by the court, but otherwise all you really need is the active consent of your spouse.
Can we get the forms for filing in Allegheny County? For $52 difference in the cost of filing fees we would probably prefer to just file in our County.
We do file in Allegheny County — that’s where our office is located — but we don’t have a kit for it. The filing fees in Allegheny County total $101 more than in Cameron County, incidentally. Initial filing is $186, and $20 to transmit the record and request a decree.
If I am reading this correctly I will pay $49 upfront for the paperwork. Then Cameron County filing fee is $90.75 and $19 for the decree? I live in Berks County is Cameron Cty the County you would file it in
Thank You,
Lisa
Hi, Lisa! Your reading is correct. We have the kit set up to file in Cameron County because their filing fees are especially low, and because they have waived a requirement that at least one of the divorcing spouses reside in the county. Pennsylvania law allows this, strictly provided that both spouses affirmatively cooperate.
Im trying to buy the kit now but it wont accept my american express card do you have any kits at your office that i can come in personally and purchase?
When you order the kit online, you can use whatever form of payment that Paypal will accept. If instead you want to call our office directly to purchase the kit, we can take your American Express information over the phone to run your payment.
Why when ordering the kit over the phone do they ask you for your pin number to your visa debit card. I never had to give my personal pin number out to anyone. I only had to give my card number, expire date and the 3 digit number on the back. How do I know this is not a scam?
No, we don’t need your PIN to accept payment for the kit. When we run debit cards, we run them as credit cards. Verify this with your bank if you are in doubt, but in my experience you get the same fraud protection as you would with any credit card.
I can simply tell you that we’re not a scam, of course, but scammers would say the very same thing.
I wanted to thank you for helping me through what could/should have been a very difficult, frustrating and expensive time. Your divorce kit helped to make this process better than I could have imagined. I have already recommended the kit to a few people I know. A million thanks to your firm for helping me!
I’m very grateful for your kind words. A little closure can go a long way! I wish you the best of luck moving forward, and a lawyer-free future.
Fast, easy and worth it! The packet included step by step instructions that were easy to understand and the whole process took less than 2 months!
Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad our forms did the job for you.
I received your kit and followed the instructions as stated. there were no major issues that could not be resolved via email. The final documents were submitted on May 11,2021 and I received the divorce Decree signed May 11, 2021. I’m currently waiting the final order which has not yet been entered.
